Rhymesayer‘s recording artist Brother Ali just launched an interesting new interactive website for his album “US”. He also posted this video in which he tries to explain to fans what it takes to put together a quality album and answers a fan’s question on illegal downloading. You’d think that would be a tired point at this stage already, but I recommend watching it because of the poise and reasonable manner in which he relates to the fan’s question.
It’s nice to hear someone put it in these words, even if I think the cause might be lost. At last night’s Casey Shea show, Casey passed a spindle of cdrs out to the audience, saying that we should all accept reality that music was free, even if that might offend a few people in the room. I’m putting together a strategic plan for Casey’s release right now that attempts to combine that sentiment, and direct it at peripheral fans, with a special edition for those people that want to buy something in support and would be considered “inner circle fans”. This way the music gets spread widest, we don’t ignore reality and we provide something special for those interested. This would then maximizing income streams at the same time, which then enable us to pay rent and keep going. Coming soon at the Casey Shea merch table: a spindle of free cdrs, hand-silkscreened albums for $10, and a $12 t-shirt with a free download code for high-quality mp3s.
