Sure, Tom Petty’s songs only have three chords and they’re G C and D, but I don’t see that many people using them as effectively with as catchy melodies as Tom does. The same goes for say Backstreet Boys’ hits, Britney, and others of that ilk. So stop hating on mainstream pop hits, and write your own if you think it’s that easy.
