Repubishing an email sent earlier today:
Dear friends,
We need your help. Some of you may know that at Family Records we try to be very involved in our community, locally and globally, beyond just the music. (BTW check out the new site, we’re so excited and proud of it
thefamilyrecords.com) Inspired by friends volunteering all over the world, and Barack Obama’s call to service for the United States, we are looking to grow the charitable aspect of Family Records into a bigger and more visible element of our movement. Our goal in this is to positively affect people’s lives both through music and by helping the less fortunate with either financial donations or our time. We believe that music is a strong positive force and one that can connect people in ways not many other things can.
Who Do We Need?
In light of these increased efforts we recognize the need for an additional person to join the Family and focus specifically on spearheading and coordinating our charitable efforts. In it’s current form the position will be unpaid and part time (estimate: 2-3 hours per week). Tasks include linking artists to charities, communicating and collaborating with charities, coordinating charity-specific Family promotional efforts or events, managing the charity budget, handling minor administrative work that concerns our donations. We are looking for an organized person with an eye for detail, great communication skills, patience and much heart. Ideally we’re looking for someone who is interested in being involved for a longer period, but we’d love any help we can get. We hope to grow this position into a paid one with more hours eventually.
Who Do We Want To Help?
We’re looking to support people both in the US and abroad. We will be working with the following two specific organizations (and others like Room To Read):
Kiva.org helps connect us to small business owners/entrepreneurs in the third world that need micro financing for their company. This can be as simple as someone needing $100 for wood to build a new fruit stand, or $150 for computer training. These micro loans are paid back in full, after which we can re-invest the money in one or more other entrepreneurs in need.
Donor’s Choose helps provide US students in need with resources that public schools often lack. Teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn, donors get to pick where they put their money. It ranges from $96 for a student Trombone for band class, to $83 for 5 portable cd players for a language class.
If this position sounds like it would be of interest to anyone in your immediate circle please let us know and/or forward this email to them so that they can get in touch with us. Much thanks!
love,
Wes, Lisa, Nigel and the rest of the Family
