A Change

For those who aren’t yet following me on Twitter, an exciting/scary announcement. Exciting because it’s what I’ve essentially always worked towards, scary because I will now be completely on my own (with my amazing bands) and will be the only one responsible for my success or failure ha! There will be no love lost between the great folks at Engine Room Recordings and myself. Matter of fact I’m moving into a tiny office space right next to theirs! And of course I will be attending The Bloodsugars album release show at The Studio this Saturday at 10pm, right after I’ll be at the Living Room for Casey Shea‘s 8pm show. Thank you for all of your love, help and support through the last 6 years in NYC to help get me here, and know I’ll need it more now than ever before to spread the Family word! More exciting news soon!

First of all, apologies for the lack of posts. I’ve been traveling a lot the last three weeks and laptop time has been limited. Getting back into it now! I hope you’ve been following me on twitter, which for some reason never stops even if I’m underwater or away from reception.

This is a bit off topic, but I wanted to share that I just started a photography portfolio over at the wonderful CarbonMade.com, which recently became the biggest online portfolio service in the world. Last night we had out 250th installment the weekly Cross-Pollination concert series my friend Jay and I founded. It was one of my very favorites ever. We comboned indie-rockers Mancino with a live Hip Hop band fronted by Philly MC Nyle and with a guest appearance by Mr. Donny Goines. The night was topped off by alt Americana rockers Israel Darling, a fresh Engine Room Recordings signing. Check out a video of the night below. Within seconds I had this reply, which links to a website selling Mariah’s MSG concert on DVD.

So annoying, and as of yet there doesn’t seem to be a way to protect yourself from this type of abuse. Twitter will face a major challenge here.

500 Days of Summer Google Fail

I’m going to go see the much anticipated (by me) 500 Days of Summer this Thursday. As I entered this into my Google calendar it somehow kept messing up and it took me three times of deleting and re-entering “500 Days of Summer 7pm” until I realized Google’s automatic time translator was entering the event “Of Summer” for the next 500 days. Ha!

As some of you might know for about a year and a half I maintained a Hip Hop news blog, over at SitDownStandUp.com, which originated from my contributions on BrooklynVegan.com. My love for Hip Hop is not dead. However, life has taken me in different directions professionally and lead me to effectively retire from Hip Hop blogging about 9 months ago. Just now I got around to putting up a retirement post. I had a lot of good times on SDSU and many thanks go out to all the readers and fellow bloggers in Hip Hop for linking and building with me, including Rafi, Eskay, DP, Metal Lungies crew, Henry, ItsTheReal, Enigmatik, FDB, Ian, L Boogie and everyone else. Also many thanks to all the mainstream publications that linked and drove traffic including Entertainment Weekly, VH1, MTV, Rolling Stone, USA Today, New York Magazine, Vibe (RIP), XXL, Blender (RIP), CMJ, Sirius Radio, NME, Harp (RIP), Paste (RIP), Spin, Gothamist and countless others.

Blog Categories

I have just redone this blog a bit visually and I am now tightening up the content. From now on posts will be focused in the following categories, with the first three mentioned making up the vast majority:

Inspiration: photos, illustrations, music and whatever inspires me in my mission of creating and helping create remarkable products and stories.
Record Label Activities: Anything to do with any music released that I am involved in in one way or another. Videos from the studio, music to share, etc.
Lessons Learned:As an academic for life I live to learn and love reading magazines, books, blogs and whatever else can teach me new skills that I can then apply to my mission and company. In this category I will analyze and apply knowledge gained through reading about other people’s experiences and wisdom.
Miscellaneous: Self-explanatory.
Photography: During the last few months I’ve been relatively inactive when it comes to my photography, but I plan on changing this soon.
Concert Curation: Another relatively inactive category, to do with any concerts I may curate, including the long-running weekly Cross-Pollination concert series.
Charity: More on this soon.
